Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater

Chances are pretty good that you've never seen a house like Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater. Perched over a waterfall in the woods of Mill Run, Pennsylvania, the house was built for the Kaufmann Family of Pittsburgh in 1936 and was completed in 1939. Guided tours of this National Historic Landmark feature the main rooms, open-air walkways and an abundance of terraces. Self-guided grounds tours are also available. A Visitor Center boasts a cafe that serves salads, soups and sandwiches.

  • Do I need to make a reservation for a Fallingwater tour?

Indeed, you do. It's the only way you can be guaranteed a spot. As for when you should make a reservation or purchase tickets, it's recommended that you do it at least 10 days to two weeks in advance for Guided House Tours and three to four weeks ahead of time for special tours, including the In-Depth Tour, Sunset Tour and Brunch Tour. Call Visitor Services at 724-329-8501 or visit the Fallingwater Tours and Tickets page.
  • Is there a lot of walking on the tour?

Yes, there is. It begins with a 1/4 mile walk from the Visitor Center to Fallingwater. The house has many staircases and once the tour begins, you will not have any place to sit. For those unable to make the round-trip walk, there is a shuttle. An option for those who may find all the stairs unmanageable is to tour the first floor and then head back to the Visitor Center where a video about the house is shown.
